“It is I; don’t be afraid.” Jn 6
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. Rev 1 ⦿ “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Is 43
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Is 6 ⦿ “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Is 44
But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 1 Jn 2

I think it’s fair to say that we all need heroes - and Christians need heroes of the Faith. For me personally John Stott has had that role for the majority of my life, until he died in 2011. Just like the Queen he’d always been there. But he remains a hero and a role model, even so.
I haven’t read a John Stott book or commentary for a few years now - and urgently need to revisit them! But I loved the way his writing brought Scripture into the brightest light, and into laser-sharp coherent focus. It wasn’t just the books! I heard him preach at All Souls numerous times, and I even set up his microphone at one event in Bristol. People who knew him well spoke so highly of him too.
If you have never ever heard of him, you have an amazing opportunity awaiting you!
