The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
1 Jn 3For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph 6 ⦿ Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil … Heb 2 ⦿ And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Col 2 ⦿ Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Rev 12But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I think it’s fair to say that we all need heroes - and Christians need Heroes of the Faith. For me John Stott has had that role for the majority of my life, until he died in 2011. Just like the Queen he’d always been there; but he remains a hero and a role model, even so.
I haven’t read a John Stott book or commentary for a few years now - and urgently need to revisit them! But I loved the way his writing brought Scripture into scintillating clarity and laser-sharp focus. It wasn’t just the books! I heard him preach at All Souls numerous times, and I even set up his microphone at one event in Bristol. People who knew him well spoke so highly of him.
If you haven’t even heard of him, you have an amazing opportunity awaiting you!
